JUST IN: US President Joe Biden To Ban TikTok

A bill to outlaw the social media app TikTok has been signed into law by US President Joe Biden.

The U.S. Congress previously enacted a law requiring TikTok’s parent firm, ByteDance, located in China, to sell the app within nine months or risk having it banned from the country.

On Wednesday, Biden signed the law connected to the $95 billion foreign aid package authorized by Congress this week, which includes more funds for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan.

Meanwhile, TikTok has threatened legal action against the new law.

TikTok spokesperson Alex Haurek declared the law “unconstitutional” and promised to “challenge it in court.”

TikTok won a legal battle against former President Donald Trump’s attempt in 2020 to force the sale of TikTok through an executive order that would prevent all U.S.-based transactions with ByteDance unless the firm divested the app within 45 days.
